Katz JCC ACHaD Events For Individuals with Special NeedsACHaD Year-Round Events

The ACHaD Special Needs Department wants you and your family to feel welcome at the JCC and to feel part of a bigger community. We host a variety of special events throughout the year including  a Dance Party, Passover Seder, Tess Norton Purim Basketball Classic, Art Gallery Reception, Bowl-A-Thon, and Community Resource Fair. Additional community outreach events include a Friendship Connection Walk, Workshops for parents of teens through young adults, and special presentations.  For further information please contact Eileen at [email protected] 

Autism Goes to the Movies

Join us for a night out on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 pm.  Through the lens of a movie camera, explore:

  • What autism looks like
  • Unique challenges faced by people on the spectrum
  • Triumph in the face of adversity

Guest speakers: Jennifer Hoheisel, a professor at Camden County College, and her son, Will, who has a degree in film studies. Together, they use their experience living with autism to challenge stereotypes in this unique presentation.

Friendship Connection Walk: 

Katz JCC ACHaD and Samost JFCS Special Needs Departments and the Jewish Abilities Alliance of the Jewish Federation

Community members, individuals and families of all ages and abilities join us Sunday, October 28 at 1 pm for a one mile walk.  Pre-registration is $10 per walker (includes a t’shirt).  Day of registration is $15 per walker. Planning the Transition from School to Adult Life (2018-2019)

Take part in a series of workshops for parents of teens ages 14 through young adult, Tuesdays at 7pm at the Katz JCC, starting in the dall of 2018.  Our schedule is below:

  • Oct 23 – Transition and the IEP
  • Nov 27 – PerformCare to DDD
  • Jan 22 – Support coordination
  • March 26 – Guardianships and Trusts
  • May 7 – Benefits Coordination

ACHaD Passover Seder

Individuals with special needs and their families are invited to join us for a traditional Passover Seder and delicious dinner!

Bowl-A-Thon

Join us for an afternoon of fundraising, bowling, pizza and door prizes while supporting ACHaD programs and services. This event will be held at the Big Event Entertainment Experience in Cherry Hill, NJ.  They are located at 1536 Kings Hwy N, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.  Click HERE to to download a registration form.

Details: Sunday, Sept 22,2019 1-3pm | Cost: $25 per bowler (includes bowling, commerative t-shirt, shoe rental, pizza and drinks)

ACHaD Tess Norton Purim Classic

Join us for an evening of friends & fun activities on March 16, 2019 including basketball (ACHaD Squadron team members) or art.  Enjoy delicious hamentshen and ice cream treats. This event is for individuals with special needs ages 12 through adult & their families.

Proceeds for this event benefit the ACHaD Department. This event is sponsored by the family of Tess Norton.

ACHaD Dance Party

Individuals with special needs and their families are invited to join your friends and enjoy a pasta dinner, ice cream bar, dancing and party games.

Special Needs Resource Fair

Our Special Needs Resource Fair was a huge success with over  50 special needs programs and services in the South Jersey community.
