Jewish Art in Medieval Spain
July 13, 2021 @ 11:15 am - 12:15 pm

Virtual Class Instructor: Barbara Tomlinson, Cultural Historian / In collaboration with JCC Central NJ
Since 1492 the Spanish national identity has been rooted in a firm belief in “cultural and ethnic purity.” It was not until 1975, with the death of Franciso Franco, that scholars were able, for the first time, to investigate the historical accuracy of this belief. What they discovered was that before the 15th century there was a flourishing artistic scene, especially in Barcelona, that involved artists and patrons of multiple faiths and ethnicities. This talk traces those discoveries.
