Event Series Event Series: Jewish Film Composers

Jewish Film Composers

January 3 @ 1:30 pm - 2:45 pm

In the month of January, Ira Miller will feature three Jewish film composers: Dave Grusin, David Raskin, and Jerry Goldsmith. Dave Grusin is equally loved as a film and TV composer and as a touring jazz keyboard player. We know him for his diverse film and TV scores, such as On Golden Pond, Tootsie, The Graduate, Good Times, and the Goonies. David Raksin represented a new generation of film score composers, beginning in the 1950s, who used a more contemporary sound than the composers that came before him. Fellow film composers named him the “Grandfather of Film Music” because of all the work he did as an advocate for his fellow film composers and because of his very long career. Jerry Goldsmith is considered one of Hollywood’s most innovative composers. Unlike past film composers, who occasionally added electronic sounds to more conventional orchestral scores, Goldsmith consistently made that combination into an art form, part of his defining toolkit.
