Juvenile INjustice: Life Without Parole for Kids IN PERSON

August 17, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 11:45 am

IN PERSON Instructor: Harriet Hendel, The Innocence Project Board of Directors, Teacher at Maximum Security Prison, “Pursuing Justice” Podcast

The United States is the only country in the world that sentences juveniles to Life Without Parole—in essence, a death sentence. There were 2500 children serving Life Without Parole in 2012. The Supreme Court ruled that this sentence was unconstitutional that year. In 2016 the ruling was made retroactive, but 1465 juveniles are still behind bars. Let’s explore this disturbing topic together.

Harriet has been an advocate for those in prison since 2006 when she volunteered to teach at a maximum-security prison for 2200 men. In 2009, she began her involvement with The Innocence Project of Florida. For 6 years she was on the IPF Board of Directors. Now she has her own podcast called: “Pursuing Justice.”

DATES & TIMES: Tuesday, August 17, 10:30-11:45am /  COST: No Charge for JCC Members and Guests but registration required.
