ACHaD Social & Recreational Programs
The ACHaD Special Needs Program offers a variety of fun and engaging social and recreational programs throughout the year. These programs provide an outlet for individuals with special needs to make friends, take pride in themselves, and make a positive impact in our community. Whether you are looking to build your creativity through art or music, a healthier mind, and body through fitness and cooking, or a way to stay connected to the community – the JCC offers something for everyone!
The JCC welcomes families of all faiths, cultures, and abilities to be a part of our vibrant community, and we encourage all to participate in our social and recreational programs.
We have virtual and in-person programming options to keep participants engaged all year long.
New for the 2023-2024 program season, Wednesdays is your day to be at the J for all things ACHaD!
Join us for the entire duration of a program, or you’re welcome to drop week by week, with advance notice given.
Full program rates vary per program, and drop-ins are permitted with at least 24 hours’ notice. (Drop-in rates: $10/JCC Member, $20/Guest)
Engage Your Brain
We will be diving into everything from card games and strategy games to team-building games, and so much more! promotes teamwork, problem-solving, and most of all, having fun.
Date and Time: This program will be on Wednesdays, October 5 – January 4

Functional Fitness
Held on the first Wednesday of each month, February – June 2023
Join us for functional fitness, a new series of classes geared toward getting your body ready for the most crucial form of physical fitness—the kind that gets you ready for day-to-day life. Seth Conley, the manager of the Katz JCC’s fitness center, will be the instructor for these courses. During these lessons, we’ll use a variety of tools to keep our bodies moving, including weights, bands, and a lot more. We hope to see you all moving along with us soon!

Cooking at the J
Held on the second Wednesday of each month, September 2022 – June 2023
Led by Nina Lattimer, owner of Lil Sous Chefs, we will be breaking into the world of healthy cooking and recipe building. Everyone will be a part of each meal we make together and we look forward to tasting everything we make together.

Look Who’s Dancing
Held on the third Wednesday of each month, September 2022 – June 2023
Please join us for a year of fun-filled Look Who’s Dancing sessions to make you jump, move and groove to your favorite songs. We are all looking forward to dancing with you this year.

Horticulture at the J
Presented by registered Horticultural therapist Rachelle Hasenberg, join our relaxed and fun-filled horticulture workshops focusing on independence and socialization while letting our creativity shine.

ACHaD Spirit
Join us for a great way to get immersed in our inclusion community here at the J! Meet new people, play some games, explore what our community has to offer, and have fun exploring with friends.
This year at Spirit we will be branching out to our community. We will be going on restaurant trips to try some delicious food, movie nights for the latest and greatest films, and of course diving into the world of arts & crafts. We hope to see you soon!

ACHaD Year-Round Events and Workshops
The ACHaD Special Needs Program wants you and your family to feel welcome at the JCC and to feel part of a bigger community. We host a variety of special events throughout the year including a Dance Party, Passover Seder, Tess Norton Purim Basketball Classic, Art Gallery Reception, Bowl-A-Thon, and Community Resource Fair. Additional community outreach events include a Friendship Connection Walk, Workshops for parents of teens through young adults, and special presentations. Special Needs Resource Fair
On Monday, May 16, 2022, stop by the J to meet representatives from exciting special needs programs, organizations and services for all ages in South Jersey. This event is free and open to the community. Discover camps, creative arts, sports, fitness, social and recreational services, therapeutic services, disability resources, transition and life skills, and more!
ACHaD Art Exhibit
Our annual art exhibit features original artwork by members of the Katz JCC ACHaD program and the Samost JFCS Special Needs Programs in our Appel Art Gallery. Light refreshments will be served.
