We have a day for giving thanks, two for getting deals and now we have #GivingTuesday; a global day dedicated to giving back!
Giving Tuesday is entering its 5th year worldwide, fueled by the power of social media. It connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the to celebrate and encourage giving as we kick off the charitable season, a time when many people focus on their holiday and end of the year giving.
When I began working at the Katz JCC 3 ½ years ago, I had no idea our facility leaves such a lasting impression on those that enter through our doors every day. Whether you walk into the Sari Isdaner Early Childhood Center and see children laughing and playing, or pop into a special needs music class where it doesn’t matter if you can sing – everyone has a smile on their face.
Last week we served over 150 older adults at our annual special Thanksgiving feast. Coming into the social hall and being able to sit with them, listen to their stories about their families and how much they enjoy coming to the JCC, reminds me that we are all a big extended family!
It is programs like this, I am reminded every year why giving back to the community is so important, not only on #GivingTuesday, but every day of the year! I hope that you too will follow in my footsteps and give back to the JCC this year. You can donate by visiting our #GivingTuesday page.
