Fall Forest Hike at Sourlands Mountain Preserve

We will meet at the Sourlands Mountain Preserve near Princeton, NJ, approximately a one-hour drive from the Katz JCC.
Join us for an adventure that offers an exhilarating hiking experience for adults seeking both adventure and tranquility. This stunning natural sanctuary boasts over 2,000 acres of rugged terrain, featuring a network of well-maintained trails that wind through lush forests, rocky outcrops, and captivating vistas. This is a perfect hike for nature enthusiasts and photographers. Our hike will cover 3-4 miles with an approximate 400 foot elevation change.
This hike is for moderate/intermediate hikers. Hikers should wear appropriate footwear, and bring water and snacks. Park amenities are available. Bring lunch and enjoy the beautiful fall day.

Workshop 1: Inhale Love, Exhale Peace
Theme: Heart-Opening & Emotional Reset
This gentle heart-centered flow invites you to inhale compassion and exhale tension. We will begin with grounding breathwork, followed by a fluid series of heart-opening gentle postures to release stagnation from the chest and shoulders. Session focus includes chest, shoulders, spine and emotional balance.
Workshop 2: Root to Rise: Grounded in Grace
Theme: Root Chakra, Safety, and Grounding
A slow, strong, and soulful flow to help you feel safe, supported, and steady. Using grounding breathwork, the flow includes earthy postures to activate the root chakra and cultivate deep inner security. Session focus includes hips, legs, lower back and self-trust.
Workshop 3: The Joy Within: A Flow for Radiance
Theme: Joy Activation & Inner Radiance
This joyful workshop uplifts your spirit through breath-led movement and playful transitions. Movements spark vitality and release stuck energy. Session focus includes core, balance, breath and energetic uplift. Instructor: Karen Taylor Bass.

Monday, October 20: Collage with Colorful Paper: Henri Matisse

Workshop One: Explore paper collage in the style of Henri Matisse. The workshop will start with a short review of the artist’s work and then create your own piece in that style, using paper and glue to “Paint with Scissors.” All materials are provided, and any artistic level is welcome.
Workshop Two: Explore the technique of Automatic Drawing in the style of Hilma af Klint. The workshop includes a short review of the artist’s work and then create your own piece in that style using mixed media to exercise, allowing your hand to move freely, applying chance and accident to art making. This class is designed for people who want to know more about watching and analyzing great films. We will examine common story types found in films as well as basic elements of film, including editing, cinematography & lighting, and costume design.
The first part of the class will be spent analyzing these various elements in clips from famous movies, and the second part of the class will be spent watching two full films (Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein and Alex Garland’s Ex Machina) and discussing the history behind and various film techniques used for them.

Join us for an enlightening class designed specifically for women, exploring the rich history and deep spiritual significance of the Jewish Mikvah. Far more than a ritual, the Mikvah represents a deeply personal journey of renewal, reflection, and transformation—no matter where you are in your life or faith.
In our first session, we’ll uncover the origins and meaning of this sacred practice within Jewish tradition. Welcome to the unique environment called the Pinelands, containing over 1,000,000 acres in the most crowded state in the US. The Pinelands are recognized nationally and internationally as an environmental treasure.
Session One: At our first class, meet your fellow photographers and learn more about the Pinelands and how to photograph this amazing environment (smartphone or camera).
Session Two: Spend a special morning together in the Pinelands to capture the sunrise and early light in this beautiful, natural landscape.
Session Three: For our final class, we will come back together in the classroom to review your best photographs and receive critiques, pointers, and bragging rights. This is a special immersive experience in New Jersey’s own wilderness landscape. Instructor: Richard Lewis.
