On Saturday April 14 and Sunday April 15 the Katz JCC will be holding the 13th annual Sussman 3 on 3 Weekend. Eric and Andy Sussman, who both passed away very young due to cancer related illnesses, shared a love for both the game of basketball and the JCC. This weekend honors their memory, and proceeds from the weekend benefit both Coaches vs Cancer and youth basketball programs at the JCC.
This weekend not only honors their memory, it serves many purposes.
For some, it allows them to get together with friends and reminisce about their times with both Eric and Andy. For others, it is a way for them to contribute to the fight the battle of ending cancer. This weekend-long event allows them to play in a fun tournament with friends and family.
To me personally, this tournament has been near to my heart since I joined the JCC staff over 9 years ago. Our committee works tirelessly throughout the year to continually make this event a success. I am extremely lucky to have such a dedicated group of people helping.
This event took on added levels of meaning to me when cancer affected my family: in 2013 I lost my grandfather to blood cancer, and in 2016, when I lost my mother to lung cancer. Ironically, my mom was wearing a Sussman 3 on 3 shirt the day she was diagnosed. Unfortunately, she lost her fight but I believe this event and the proceeds it provides will help someone or a family member/friend win their fight and finally put an end to all cancer fights.
Please consider either becoming a sponsor or have your child participate in this tremendous event! We look forward to seeing you. Saturday, April 14 is our high school tournament, and Sunday, April 15 are the grade school tournaments. It’s a ton of fun, the energy in the gymnasium is contagious all weekend long and we always end the weekend with huge smiles on our faces from it all.
