Specialty Wellness Classes

The Katz JCC has a variety of specialty wellness classes and programs that are intended for people seeking recovery from illness, a specific health condition, or those looking to improve their overall health. Work with one of our exercise specialists and learn how to succeed through the progression of specific training that focuses on improving functional capacity, improving joint range of motion, minimizing fatigue, and preventing illness.


Adult Ballet

Come enjoy the beauty and grace of classical ballet! This is a perfect class for those getting started or revisiting ballet again as an adult. This class will cover basic ballet positions, steps and vocabulary with a focus on the student’s awareness of proper posture and body alignment. Barre work and center floor exercises will be given to enhance coordination, strength, balance and flexibility. Participants will also develop a sense of musical awareness and movement quality. No prior ballet experience necessary. Socks or Ballet shoes are recommended.

Fit for Kids

Power the kids up in this innovative wellness program which combines action-packed fitness, fun and delicious nutrition. Various types of exercise will be introduced followed by nutrition tips and tasting healthy recipes.

From Chaos to Calm, From Stressed to Stillness! Help your child manage those big emotions with Kids Yoga! From 3-6 years old, children learn breathing techniques that can help them manage those BIG FEELINGS that they can’t really understand and/or verbalize. By incorporating movement, songs, stories and art, your child will have the opportunity to explore yoga in many different forms. Join us for this four week session as we have fun with Kids Yoga!

Intermediate Hatha Yoga with Christine Buck

Pilates for Neurological Disorders

This class is specifically designed for neurological conditions, such as MS, and those recovering from a stroke. Pilates for Neurological Disorders can specifically help with improving strength, balance, and flexibility. Basic Pilates positions will be taught using related apparatus in a supportive, gentle, and fun environment. Emphasis on breathing and body alignment to connect with and control body movement.

Line Dancing with Shamsun

This class is designed for both beginners & non seasoned veterans. The instructor will teach you the basic steps, rhythms, and the sequence for each routine. It is a choreographed program that provides a well-rounded exercise experience while having fun with a group.

Medical Chinese Qigong with Marjie Zimmerman

This class is designed to give one the tools to practice basic Chinese Medical Qigong. It is a self-clearing practice that tones and regulates the lungs, liver, heart, kidneys and spleen. Qigong is a wonderful way to rid the mind, body and emotions of unwanted energy and replace it with a vibrant life force. It can bring one a calm sense of well-being that can be carried into daily life. A great addition to any current exercise regime that benefits all ages.

Tai Chi for Balance

This beginner level Tai Chi class of slow flowing movements is designed for those who wish to address balance impairments while also improving mobility and overall wellness. Class is taught with seated and standing options.

Tiny Dancers (Ages 3-5)

This creative movement series will introduce the basics of dance to students ages 3-6. Class will begin with a warm-up followed by new dance steps pulled from a wide array of styles including ballet, modern, jazz, and hip hop. Each class will introduce a theme, which will be reinforced through storytelling during rest times to encourage interdisciplinary learning. This class can be modified to accommodate physical differences.

Elements of Ballet (Ages 6-9)

In this session, a traditional ballet class structure is introduced. Students learn fundamental ballet technique through barre work, center exercises, and across the floor combinations designed to improve coordination, flexibility, endurance, and musicality. Class is held in the JFlow Studio. Socks or ballet shoes, and leotard/tights or form fitting clothing are recommended for class.

Relax Renew

Location: JFlow Studio

Relax Renew is a mind Body class designed specifically for the medical fitness participant no matter where they may be in their treatment. From Diagnosis through treatment all the way into survivorship. It is an all-comprehensive program aiming the participant with movements and techniques they can use at the class or at home to improve the body and the spirit.
