Every Day at the Katz JCC is a Great Day – Especially, #GivingTuesday

By Brian M. Adler, JCC Development Director & Assistant Director

I have been fortunate to have been a part of the Katz JCC staff for 21 years now.  I began in the old JCC as the Children’s Program Coordinator and am proud to now serve as an Assistant Director at the J.  When I look back on the past 20 years, many things have changed, but one thing has not: the commitment so many in our community have made to ensuring the JCC will be here for generations to come.

I have the privilege of working with so many community businesses and organizations as well as members of our community, who give so generously to our Jewish Community Center year after year.  You support our special events like the Bank of America Festival of Arts, Books and Culture, Kidsland and the 5K, as well as ventures like #BubbesBrisket, a crowdfunding campaign which supports the adult congregate meal program.

Three years ago, we jumped on the bandwagon that is #GivingTuesday, an international day of giving driven by the power of social media.  #GivingTuesday is held every year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and ties into the holiday season, which is a time many people give to charities and organizations close to their heart.

Our #GivingTuesday campaign needs your help!  The funds we raise from our campaign support our ACHaD special needs department, our summer day camps, Sari Isdaner Early Childhood Center and older adult programs.  Without your generosity, we wouldn’t be able to provide the unforgettable summer experiences for children who attend Sari Isdaner Early Childhood Camps or JCC Camps at Medford.  We wouldn’t be able to keep our senior meal program afloat – this program runs a deficit, but without donations from the community, it wouldn’t be a reality.  It also permits us to keep our special needs department vibrant.  I have seen so many special needs children start in our Open Hearts / Open Doors inclusion program at camp, seamlessly transition into our year-round programs, and emerge incredible individuals.  The experiences we provide for them and their families is second to none.

So, here’s where you come in.  You can donate to our #GivingTuesday efforts through our Facebook page, right on our website or in person at the JCC.  On this year’s #GivingTuesday, November 28, our staff will be set up in the lobby with treats and kindly asking for your donations.  Every dollar counts.

We are a strong, thriving and exceptional community because of you.
