The Jewish Comedies of the 1970s

Instructor: Irv Slifkin

Do you want to laugh? Here’s your chance: This six-part film series centers on the Jewish talents in front of and behind the camera during the exciting “new wave” of filmmaking of the 1970s. The comic films range from farce to social satire to a bittersweet mix of laughs and drama–all with Jewish ties, yet! Irv Slifkin, Professor of Journalism at Temple University, hosts the series.

Movies shown: The Heartbreak Kid (1972), The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob (1973), Sleeper (1973), Going in Style (1979), The Frisco Kid (1979), and The In-Laws (1979).
